0211 - Dream

Various scenes of players from a seaside cabaret show practicing their routines. A row of women wearing identical outfits sit at desks counting out coins in terms of minutes passing. Various disembodied voices speak unconnected lines about time and money. One voice mentions that BT calls are 1p a minute. A ventriloquist repeats the price to his puppet. We cut to Hoskins being led onto a stage by a pair of cabaret dancers. Other cabaret dancers hold up signs announcing the price of the calls. Hoskins receives kisses on both cheeks from the cabaret dancers. They dance the cancan. Hoskins imagines four dancers talking on the phone. He wakes up on a deckchair. He comments that it was a beautiful dream but that they never come true. He opens up a newspaper and lays it over his face. On the back page we see an advertisement for 1p a minute calls.
