1028 - Midsummer Day's Work

The process of laying an underground telephone cable in Oxfordshire from Amersham to Aylesbury in order to help take stress off the old cable and to aid the Defense of Britain. Shows the stages of cable laying including marking the route; digging pilot holes to check for obstructions; digging the trenches; laying the pipe in which the cable will be placed; and paying the cable through the pipe. Also shows various scenes of the countryside and summer activities and describes some important local buildings and their history, including an 18th century house and Amersham market hall.
