0223 - Rehearsal

We open on a balcony in an empty theatre. Hoskins asks us to remember a scene from a play where a young man is rehearsing his declaration of love. Below on the stage, a different Hoskins acts out the young man's lines. In the first rehearsal, his words are rough and lack charm. Hoskins on the balcony rolls his eyes. In the second rehearsal, Hoskins's phrasing is better but he's nervous. The Hoskins from the balcony comments that he's improving. He tells us that rehearsing our lines in real life is a good idea particularly on the phone or if we're saying sorry. He picks up a phone and sits down in a chair in the centre of the stage. He tells us to think things through and organise our feeligs in advance. He gives an example of an apology. He puts the phone down and stands up, walking towards the exit. He tells us that it's also worth having some conversation starters planned when talking to old friends. He assures us that this planning won't make us sound strange, only more like ourselves. As he's leaving, a person offstage bids Hoskins goodnight.
